IGDC/IGF 2006 discussion

Ultimately, I know the reason I'm not going to IGC is because I've made the decision not to. Work, money, time... if I wanted to go that bad, these things wouldn't be excuses. So, I'm setting my sights for IGDC/IGF (already asked for 2 weeks off work during that time).

I'd like to hear everyone's experiences with the respective ticket package they invested in.

150$ for the expo pass is an incredible deal, but I'm looking for more than entertainment.
Were people happy with the 1500$ they paid for VIP passes? How informative were the Tutorials, lectures, etc?

I'd really love to expand my knowledge and experiences by attending game conference events as much as I can. Saving myself from spending an extra 1000$ for useless knowledge at one event could pay for many future events.

Your experiences?

The Expo pass is actually kinda lame. All it does is gets you access to the expo hall and some of the meeting areas and is most definately something you can cover within a day unless you have meetings and such lined up.

If you want to actually use it as a learning experiance I would recommend getting a pass that lets you have access to the various sessions. I did this last year and found it to be a great expenditure of money, well worth every penny.

Congrats to all who entered the event this year, and a special applause for the finalists.

I read the news coverage posted on the garagegames home page, and was wondering if anyone knew when tickets would be available...?

Its totally worth it, last year i bought th 650 pass, the serious games stuff and the expo and i was dissapointed that i didnt just spend the other 700 dollars so i could do everything. the stuff i learned from the few tutorials and workshops i was able to attend and the people and connections i made were well worth ten times what i had to spend. this year i already got my giga pass. spend the money, if your serious about developing games its worth it. and make sure you bring a small tape recorder, they dont mind if you tape the tutorials and lectures.
