Preview button on Posting page

This page on which I am now typing would feel safer with a "Preview" button, especially if were I to risk 'Markup Lite'.

Can we have one?

If you screw up you can edit your post...I find previews annoying as you always have to click through something extra.

A preview for resource submissions would be useful because you only get feedback some days later.

I recently submitted a horribly formatted code snipit and it was probably shown for some time before I could correct it.

There could of cource be 'submit' as well as 'preview' buttons, but actually as far as I'm concerned, this is not a very high priority.

After you submit your resource, it offers you the option to look it over and edit.

Doh, and I thought it was just me who could not do a bit of simple formatting while everyone else got it right first time :)

lol
I could never get resources submitted correctly the first time. I had to always go back and edit then re-edit. :)

Edit: I guess I can't reply to a simple post without editing too. :(

I just thought i'd bump this rather than create a duplicate topic, as I really think it would be a useful feature.

If you added a preview button along side the post button. So that those that think they're perfect can submit then edit, and those that NEED a preview (i.e. myself) can preview then edit their post :)

Edit : Speiling ;)

What functionality would the "preview button" have that the "edit" button doesn't give you?

- Preview
A - Allows you to make changes
B - Allows you to cancel post

- Edit Button
A - Allows you to make changes
B - Allows you to "delete" post (the "trash can")

The only difference between the two (as I see it) is that if you changed it in preview you wouldn't get the "edited" line on the bottom. The only other difference is that while you are "re-editing" the post someone could see the old one. Not a big deal in my mind.

So I don't see a need to spend the time adding a "preview" button. Spend the time adding any documentation item or item to the code.

Gareth - Am I missing something about a "Preview over Edit"?

So you can get your links right, check your tags, formatting etc. this is not something that is properly possible just from the normal edit box.

And the edit button, rightly adds an "Edited on" at the bottom. Which is far less useful if everyone assumes that a post is edited to correct the spelling grammar etc.

As previously mentioned in this thread it's less important for posts (yet it's something everyone probably is used to from other boards), but resources (which don't appear immediately) really could do with it.

I've never used the trashcan on a post; does it actually remove the post in its entirety? Just checked, it does.

Edit : Testing :)

I have see people on this board use the edit to updated links, remove part of a post that was offensive or simple remove all the text for whatever reason. I guess if you assume that the edit is to correct spelling you would be wrong on these boards. Regardless of a preview button or not.

But either way, I personally think that the time spent on "preview" would be better spent on pretty much anything else. Edit can be used for anything the preview is used for. Just my thoughts and I will leave it at that.

Dan, I think that was my point. I'd rather assume an edit was an edit, not just a spelling update. Most people are in the habit of leaving an edit reason these days anyway.

Preview functionality is both standard bulletin board functionality (I know GG isn't a standard BB), and in most cases is part of any professional workflow. Having to post blind doesn't feel very professional does it? I'm not saying it's a 100% top priority issue, but in some cases such functionality would be a trivial update.

Maybe we should have a poll... oh wait, can't do that either ;)
