The Aspect of Modern Gaming.

What is the deal with MMO's? sure, they inspire a vast world that players can run around it, but most games these days are based more on graphics than gameplay. I once went for a job interview at EA games, they told me there entire goal was to 'sell the game' (i was asking about quality over quantity). The problem is these days people are more worried about the payoff than the game itself, what ever happened to creating a game to show your dedication than to create for money? or did that die with Half-Life?
Speaking from personal experience, (ive been a GG member since March 28th, 2001) working on numerous HL mods (CS before gooseman became a bitch, Natural Selection, Mastersword, Elirons Chronicles) as well as other large scale projects. I would have to say people need to stop working about the money and start thinking more about gameplay; there is no longer an original idea in the world, the only thing left is to build on what we have.
Obviously the D&D aspect of gaming is overplayed, as well as the WW2 themed combat, and even the special forces esq games are overated. When you go down to design the game dont thing from the big aspect of the game, ie: WOW! we can put dragons, and demons, and heaven and hell! no, no no no! start from scratch, think of it like growing up, you have to walk before you can ride a bike, then you move on to driving, etc. Create the game from the ground up. The original Nintendo (if you lived in that age like i did) had some outstounding games! so hard and addictive and they were not graphically intense, but back then you could not focus on graphics, it was about gameplay. I guess what im trying to say in sum is worry more about the gameplay than the graphics, stop with the MMO crap unless you have an idea that will set you aside.

Luckly I don't see much of THAT happening here, but other places... the "l3ts mak a MMORPG!!11!" fever rages on...
Anyways, the way the universe balances out from the money-grabbing corps. are the indies. The indies like making games and usually have a ton of gameplay, but not the greatest graphics.(In general, don't shoot me >.<) So thus the universe doesn't implode!
