GID15 - Work in Progress

by J Lesko · in Game Design and Creative Issues · 09/15/2005 (12:41 am) · 10 replies

I started my GID tonight, aiming to complete it by Saturday night, since it's going to be a gift for my Dad.

More details at my new blog:

Here's a shot after 4 hours:

I have Thursday and Friday night to work on it, but I think I'll be okay (knocks on wooden leg). I've done this a few times before and have always ended with something playable. Since this is a remake, I won't need to spend much time deciding on game mechanics.

Joe

P.S. Feel free to post your own GID progress here. =)

I like ATC Games (yes I am a little bit strange ;) )....
I would love to see a demo or full game after completion.
Are you creating this in torque ?

Nice screen. Yeah are you using Torque 2d for the game?

Thanks. I'm using BlitzBasic. Haven't had a chance to take a serious look at T2D, yet.

Got the main UI in place. It's possible to control the planes now.

This is the first time I've created a mouse-driven interface, which is kind of cool, and is coming together nicely.

Yep, screens are nice looking. Never played an ATC game before (wonders if military ATC would be any different).

Looking real good so far. The game is almost complete.

Nice.

I'm taking a break from my GID to come at it fresh tommorow. Heres a screen:

Not very descriptive, its a management/wargame affair (the green stuff is meant to be food).

Looks cool so far, John. I like the look of the bright colors on white.

My game is essentially finished, though there's still quite a bit of polishing to do.

Here's the download:
www.joelesko.com/games/sfo.zip (1.6 MB)

Instructions in a nutshell:

- Hold down right button on a plane to set its course.
- Hold down left button to set elevation.
- Press the key of a plane that is landed at an airport to have it take off. (e.g. if plane D is at SFO, hit the D key)

Gratz! I'll download that on my break :)
BTW. I liked the other games on your site.

I just made a ton of updates!

www.joelesko.com/games/sfo.zip (7768k)

- Elevation 0 = cleared to land. Can't give landing planes new orders
- Added highlighted flight paths on the map
- Fixed bug with advancing time manually with Space bar
- Nicer menu UI (added buttons!) and splash screen
- Altered "Conflict" rules to make it conform more to Kennedy Approach
- Made scoreboard look nicer -- added stars for completed planes, etc.
- Ability to [Tab] to see plane orders
- Mid-air collisions!
- No longer have to hit "exit fixes" at a certain angle
