Hmm, www.map-center.com is a great resource/community for mappers.. Most all of those guys use Radiant however. Which is a great program to learn.

Unreal 2004 has a level editor right? I've never messed around with it yet though.

Edit: Oops I thought he meant just for fun and to learn. Never mind! :D

But, radiant isn't a good option if you ever want to use the things u've made in a commercial project.

That is no longer true.

OH?

About 3 weeks ago, you said "The q3radiant source code has been GPL'ed for years now. The problem is that it does say in its license that it can only be used for non-commercial projects (otherwise you have to pay a $5000 licensing fee). The same applies the q3map."

Perhaps I'm just confused.

Ah, but soon thereafter he also said,
Quote:
Sorry I mispoke. The source code for q3radiant *has* been publicly available for years with the commercial restriction. I would take a very careful look at the licensing and eula of q3radiant before using it for a commercial game to make sure there aren't any hidden "gotchas". I may attempt to contact id software directly to verify whether or not it can now be used for non-Quake commercial projects.

I would like to hear more commentary on this. Although, I have no need for Radiant at this point.

Good hijack from the original thread question, but neither it nor the discussion belongs in this forum area!

K, almost done with hjack...

"I may attempt to contact id software directly to verify whether or not it can now be used for non-Quake commercial projects."

Any word then? I loved radiant.

Maybe GG should invest in some forum moderation tools. For instance, moving threads to the proper forums. It would save a lot of "This doesn't belong here!" posts.

This article discusses the basic level design theory that you will need to create any good level.

http://www.gamasutra.com/features/20050607/steingraber_01.shtml

This article gets into the nuts and bolts of designing a level, using Illustrator and Maya. I personally use 3DS Max, so I adapted the article where needed to fit my purposes. *NOTE* If you have any problems reading these articles, it is because you need to sign up for Gamasutra - but don't worry, it's free!

I hope these help you out with your level designing =)

Let's continue this discussion in the correct forum: www.garagegames.com/mg/forums/result.thread.php?qt=34518

It's a good question. @Anthony -- thanks for the gamasutra article. I liked it.
