Milkshape vs Gamespace

by Steve Howson · in Torque Game Engine · 09/10/2005 (11:23 pm) · 2 replies

Just wondering what people's opinions are on Milkshape vs GameSpace for models and character models.

I've been trying both and seem to like Gamespace a bit more, but don't have any experience using them in Torque.

Thanks for any opinions.

I have bothe Milkshape and Truespace 6.6 which is gamespace with better rendering and a little less poly and uving tools. I have used Many modeling packages in the past and milkshape is by far the most annoying one but, the import/export abilities are what make it so useful. I have just recently got my copy of truespace so I am still having a little trouble with the dts exporter but, one of our members wrote a dif exporter that I have yet to have trouble with. I will say the truespace interface takes a little getting used to but, from my experience it becomes very intuitive. If cost is your issue though try out wings3d which is free and then use milkshape for import/export. Of course there is always blender which I can't comment on beacause I don't really have any experience with it. Hope all this helps.

I run both programs and each does some things very well; while each has it's share of 'quirks'. There is no vertex weighting in Milkshape or non-Node based object animation. Gamespace's boning/skinning system and animation control is somewhat uinque and tricky to get properly setup and functioning on a stable, consistent level. Both export DTS and DSQ filetypes. Both support IFL animation. There is a fairly good compatability between the two, but; again, some quirks, as a rig will export from gS to ms3d, no rig can be brought into GameSpace....

gS2DTS

and

nonDestroNodes

and

MilkBlends

are some of my findings on the subject of both programs. Enjoy.
