OpenGL fine, D3D bad

by Steve Way · in Torque Game Engine · 02/06/2002 (9:17 am) · 17 replies

Hello,

I bought the SDK last week and jumped right into the demo. The openGL version worked fine, but when I tried to display in D3D, it completely crapped out with polys everywhere but nothing in the game discernible other than the menus. Any suggestions or comments to make it work in both modes?

I have an Athlon 1GHz w/ 512MB Ram and a GeForce3 running WinXP. Oh, the same thing happens on all the other computers I've tested it on (3 others).

well, i've got also some problems with D3D. But i think, it's a problem with the driver. i just installed the new one when i run into this problems. i think, i reinstall the old one. do you use the latest drivers?

I've gone back a few versions from the nVidia site, but it is always the same. Actually, when I went way back, the openGL version did the same. Can anybody please help me?

It does sound like a driver issue, which could also mean that we don't have the proper work-arounds... (driver compatibility is a nightmare!) Is anybody else running D3D under XP? We all have Win2K machines here, and haven't installed XP yet.

Just to confirm. I'm running XP, Radion 8500, latest drivers, and it is truth. It looks like the polygons all originate from a point and go to infinity.

I have the same problem with win98 & geforce II w/ detonator drivers. But it only surfaced after 1_1_1 - didn't happen in 1_1_0. Polygons every which way in D3D mode.

I suspect it's something in Torque, somewhere, somehow.

I'm running win2k, kyroII (Hercules 3D Prophet 4500), 512 MB RAM. It's exactly the same thing. I've got this problem since i've downloaded the latest version of 1.1.1. In previous versions it works great. Don't know, what it is. So it can't be the driver of my card.

I'm running fine with Athlon XP 1600+, Geforce 3 Ti200 and Windows XP. Drivers are version 27.20 (not available from the NVidia site). I haven't tested with the latest "official" drivers (23.11).

Tried the new beta drivers... but to no avail. I'm thinking it is torque 1.1.1 based on what others have said in the thread.

yes win2k winxp win98 d3d the terrain is broken polies everywhere as the interiors diff's and player model and other dts files all render fine with only the terrain going crazy and only in the new 1_1_1 and only in d3d so its something messed with the terrain in this version

I'd like to say it's false, but it isn't.
Im running XP with P3 1GHZ and GF2MX. OGL runs well, but D3D has the trouble (Window and Fullscreen).
I played Tribes2 under this config (without P3) in D3D and it worked under Win98 I remember.

Actually, I haven't tested 1.1.1 with WinXP and D3D. 1.1.0 worked though. I have to test it tonight.

I've got exactly the same D3D problem with Torque Release 1.1.1 - running under W2K AS, DirectX 8.1, Geforce2 GTS 64MB, Nvidia Detonator 21.88 ... any solutions yet?? Open GL is fine, though...
And Tribes 2 runs just fine, also ...

I've also installed win 98 on this machine and the demo doesn't run at all ... it only opens the first window and nothing else happens - no error, no main window, nothing ...!? Any suggestions? Thanks!!

I tested Torque Release 1.1.1 on Windows XP, Geforce3 Ti200 and Detonator 27.30 drivers in both D3D and OGL. It worked fine, not a single graphical glitch. Resolution was 800x600 and I ran it windowed.

It also works in both D3D and OGL with minor graphical glitches (and quite slow) with my secondary computer, P2 266MHz, W2K Pro SP2, DX8.1 and Matrox G400 with 5.82 beta drivers.

It doesn't seem to be the Video Driver... I've just installed the latest Detonator 27.42 and nothing has changed ...
Which DirectX version do you use? Is anybody successfully running the D3D version with DX8.1 on Win2k?? I bet it's a DX incompatibility ...

Funny... It works sometimes and sometimes doesn't, and there doesn't seem to be any explanation for that behavior. Same problem with my secondary computer. One time I load the game and start the mission (with D3D) and it screws the screen up, the next time everything looks ok.

Hmm, it doesn't work on my machine, no matter how often I start TGE...
By the way, I've opened a new thread for this problem in the "Bugs" section, cause I think it belongs there ...

Anyone else with the problem that it doesn't start at all running on WIN98?
