3DSMax: Copy Animation Without Biped
by Greg Gardinier · in Artist Corner · 09/07/2005 (3:39 am) · 5 replies
I know you can mirror animation using the biped. However, I have a custom rig and I want to be able to copy the animation I have done on one bone and apply to another (basically coping and pasting keyframes).
Can this be done?
Thanks

But, anyway, yeah. Using the curve editor or dope sheet works in most cases. A little now and then you'll have to resort to some maxscripting though, I don't have anything generic that I use but rather write specific scripts based on the particular situation. Knowing how to script max can be extremely useful at times, it's a big part of optimizing your workflow in this piece of software.

Quote:...use the biped pose to pose copy and paste...Eh? I thought he said NOT using biped...

I am new to 3Dsmax so I don't know my way around the interface. I keep looking for tutorials and help documents but I can't find anything. I know it's really easy to duplicate keyframes on the timeline for one object (I can do that just fine) but I need to move my animation from one bone to another bone.
Thanks

Thanks for the responce. I probably should have made my question more specific but I also need to know how to use the dopesheet copy and paste animation from one bone to another. Read the included manual, it has all you need to know.

UPDATE: I found the Copy/Paste time buttons and the documentation for them. However they are disabled...
Okay I figured it out. Thanks for your help everyone. I still don't know why the copy/paste buttons are disabled but if you go up to "time" on the top menu you have the same copy and paste options and they weren't disabled for me.

Belive me, I have been, but I still havn't found this. I havn't come across a single refrence outside of character studio, and I am on a time limit so I kinda need to figure this out quickly. If someone can give me a quick answer that would be great. Provided this is possible it should be very simple....UPDATE: I found the Copy/Paste time buttons and the documentation for them.
