$100 one time fee? Or per title?

by Simon Windmill · in Torque Game Engine · 02/04/2002 (11:09 am) · 12 replies

A lot of game development-related tools are licensed per title. I don't see anything here to suggest Torque is the same, so the simple question is:

Do I only have to pay $100 one time, then I can make as many titles with it as I wish?

The way i read the licence is, You licence the engine, and you as a programmer can create as many software products from it as you can. Am I close? GG guys?

You pay $100 per people that touch the source. You can make as many games as possible but GG must publish them here and they will split the profits with you.

Hope nobody minds if I bump this - I wanted to see if this info was still correct - $100 one time inde fee, multiple games... sounds good. But I didn't see anything in the EULA that states GG MUST be the online publisher? I had thoughts about distributing something online thru my own retail space. Is that not allowed?

Do GG still have to publish the game here though? Thought they dropped that a year or so ago?

I know that wasn't the case when I bought my license two years ago.

I'm hoping it's not anymore - this thread IS 4 years old now :p

A cursory glance at the license should clear up any misconceptions about this issue. You can publish as many titles as you wish with the TGE/TGB/TSE Indie and Commercial licenses. You also do not have to publish through Garage Games. In fact, you can purchase TGE, download it, make and publish games and never ever come back to the GG site if you choose.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that its just the age of the thread providing misinformation. Was a bit alarmed by Jeff Tunnels response since I was certain that the exclusive publishing had been dropped. LOL.

OK - that's what I thought, but after I saw this thread (4 years old :p ) I just needed to clarify. Best to do that before you start out, eh?
Thanks.

The best thing is to read the current EULA and to keep the EULA version printed out of the time you purchase the engine.. and if EULA gets updated - print it out. And again - read it carefully.
The current version is more than perfect. If you purchase SDK and you make as much games as you can with no any problems.
