What do you think of this for a hud design for a racing game. The gray spot in the middle will be a radar.

The B and C are boosters and chutes and the W's are weapon ammo. I'm thinking maybe making up little icons for them instead of letters.

any criticism?

You're right. Icons would be better.

Other than that, looks good.

Since this is to be a racing game, what would be better:

a numerical representation of the various elements speed=200 armor=400 etc

or

a graphical representation of the various elements speed= 4 bars armor=image of vehicle colored red if damaged.

It seems like alot of games use the graphical way of showing stats. But what do you all think?

I think it would be cool if it's slightly transparent.

Numerical... I like seeing the speed i'm doing... and on the armor, just have it go in to red once it's below 20 or something.

Actually it all is transparent. its only grey because the background is black at the moment.

Do you think the radar may be a bit small? :/

Also I like those flashing lights (especially when i forget to lower my handbrake) hehehe...so that my add something to overall look ;)

Looks good mario. I think numerical is great for speed and armor. you can have some nice warning beeping/ flashing when the armor is low, maybe a pleasant voice saying the warning over and over again. The radar wouldn't be too small for me.
