Heres a quote from http://www.planetquake.com/

Quote:Hot off the presses folks, just announced moments ago, we've got awesome news out of camp QuakeCon where Pappy-R has just left the QuakeCon Keynote with John Carmack. The Quake III Arena source code will be released as soon as they can put it all together! It was also noted that the release "will not include any PunkBuster stuff in it". Watch for more news on the Q3 source release as it comes in!

O.o Sounds like a new toy is coming soon to a compiler near you?

Good news. It was going to be released a while back, but then someone contracted it...making them a chunk of money! Nice to see it's on its way. I love the Quake engines and can't wait to dig around in Q3's source.

Downloading it now :)

Edit: The bot compiler (bspc), q3map, and q3radiant made it into the GPL release... cool...

Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow creeps this petty download from day to day.

That is awsome, ID software is the best it might take a while for them to release this stuff but they are one of the very few who are willing to do this for their fans. Should be really interesting to see what people do with this new tool they are getting.

So now that Quake3 Source Code is available anybody want to take on the task of using TNL for it's networking protocol subsystem instead of the nasty implementation that crossed over from Quake 1?

I think it would be a pretty interesting thing to pull off. :)
