Terrain texture editor: bug?

Ok, I downloaded Torque like 2 weeks ago and last night I was playing with the FPS-starter kit. Basically importing a new .png heightfield and trying to texturize it.
on the (F8?) menu I can add textures - for now I'm only using the 3 "grasslands" one's included... I can also tweake the rules for their application (though I still don't understand that yet..).. BUT WHEN I HIT APPLY - THE WHOLE MAP IS PAINTED DEFAULT A DEFAULT-WHITE TEXTURE! (note it is a texture - not flat-white)
Fixing this involves going to the menu-bar, selecting the texture-editor for which there is no hot-key (the last one?). This is the one with the thumbnails - texture "palate" on the right side. It now lists the names of my 3 textures and "Change" buttons under them, but the textures themselves are not loaded.
I must hit the change buttons and load each individual texture, and it is magically applied to the map in real time. However should I go back to tweak a rule and click "APPLY" on the other screen again, I must repeate this process again to see my change, as it unlinks the loaded textures.
So is this a known issue? bug? user-error? what now? - I'm new here...
thanks,
Raven

First press F8 when you are in the editor, delete all paths to the old textures and add new ones.
After that you can paint with the texture painter.
