Max to Map problem

by Gamegraph · in Artist Corner · 08/10/2005 (2:28 am) · 7 replies

We are having problem with some graphic works.

1. we are using 3D Studio Max 5.1 version.
After we creates objects from Max and export to Map, shape of object is changed (actually broken). New mash has created and extruded and intercept with other mash and make hole on other mash. On Max, the object looks OK, but when it exported to Map, it happens. Is it problem with exporting or is there any other ways to work with source when I create object with Max.

2. How to insert DML file (image list file) when export to DTS.

3. I would like to explode object in game. But I don't know how to create debris object file from Max. If anyone can tell me how to make debris object file, or where I can get information or purchase existing file, it will be great help to me.

Thank you in advance, and please help me with this matters.

For the most part the MAP exporters from 3DS Max (or Maya, XSI, LW) give iffy results and really only work out half decently if you model as per the specifications and needs of BSP, that is treat everything like a lego brick and build your model piece by piece, segment by segment and not the usual polygon soup method that you would normally use when modeling.

In regards to DML files, they are not supported, you will need to use an IFL file instead if you want to do an animated image sequence list.

Debris files are just broken down nodes of a model that are littered on or around the world origins. When the engine calls for debris it swaps the file out and applies its ingame physics to the world origin and the nodes within the model are affected accordingly.

Most in max will be "destroyed" when you export to a .map file. You could try using a 3ds max plugin (also for gmax) called GLB2. It's free, and exports quite good.

Thank you for your help.
We have tried GLB2, but the problem is that when I use texture from MAX, I can not export.
Is there any other way to export with texture.

Thank you again and look forward to hear from you agaim.

Is there GLB3?
Can I export with texture if I install GLB3?

Yes and yes (if you work within the limits imposed by brush-based levels).

Thank you.
I will try GLB3.

If I have more problem, may I ask you by e-mail?
