There are only 23 days left until the cut off date for IGF entry submissions.

This is going to be one tight deadline. I am submitting Basic Bob, is anyone else planning on submitting a game to IGF ?
..... or want to help out on a game that is ? Just kidding. But seriously though... any extra help for people submitting to IGF would probably be a life saver...
So fess up!!! Who else is submitting ?

Independent Games Festival. It is in March and to have your game considered you have to submit it before September 1st.

At any rate my teams entry will be Armors:Mechanized Combat. It's going to be a fast and furious action strategy game that I'm designing with the casual gamer in mind.

I haven't even started a game yet (other than in a design document - in that way I have started many), but I'm also hoping for next year.

Why do people have to submit so early? That kinda stinks, I'm hoping to have a release by Novemeber or Decemeber. There is no way for late submissions? Should I submit a game that's not 100% finished? Then finish it before March?

According to submission rules, the game needs to be feature-complete with at least one finished playable level. You are actually allowed to submit patches/updates through some day in October which led me to believe they didn't start looking at the games until then. There's also a $95 entry fee for the non-student competition payable only by credit-card.Check out the rest of the details here

Brice - If you are serious then you need to make sure whatever game you are working on plays like it is finished (for 1 level at least) and most importantly has a tonne of polish on it.

You don't have to have a complete, final or published game to submit by September 6th. Just a product that you feel comfortable submitting and will make the best use of the submission fee that you have to provide.
After September 6th, all the games will be downloaded and broken down into chunks that are reviewed for various criteria to decide which ones will be accepted into the finalists. But before they announce the finalists in December, every game entered gets a small showcase on either GameTunnel of DIYGames that lets people see a description of all the entries.
If you are chosen as a finalist, you will have until Janurary or February to get them another build that they will use for final judging.

Last years competition was pretty tough with a lot of really great games being submitted. As such, speaking from personal experiance, if you don't have a game that you feel has the game play and finished polish of say RocketBowl or Lore Invasion (two of last year's Torque made finalists) you might want to hold off submitting your entry until next year until you are confident that you have a great product that will wow the judges from the get go.

Just to clear things up. Your game can NOT have a signed publisher when you submit it.

Did you submit a full version? or a limited demo or what ?
I don't know what they do with the games you submit. Do they get put on a compilation cd or anything ?

Logan - I have a question for you. What state was Lore in when you submitted it ? Did you submit a full version? or a limited demo or what ?

No, you just can't have a publisher that funded the game. There's a list of publishers which would exclude you from the contest if they funded development. A contract with say Garage Games doesn't matter ... heck neither does any other publisher so long as the game's development was self-funded. Case in point Alien Hominid which was published big time in the stores was in the IGF last year ... the PS2 version no less.
Anyway, I've entered it 2X ... and I think I'll be waiting until next year for our current project. There's really no point in entering unless you've got a complete game.

When we submitted Lore it was in the Early Adopter phase, which was for sale here at GG. We will be resubmitting Lore along with 1 other game this spetember.
We also submitted a full version of the game, what you submit is suppose to stay with the judges only so you shouldnt have to worr yabout it getting in the wrong hands.

I'll talk to my team and see what we can come up with by Septemeber. I'll send it to you later Logan and see if you think it's worth entering for this year.
