Recordings disabled?

by Nmuta Jones · in Torque Game Engine · 08/07/2005 (8:22 am) · 7 replies

From the looks of things, and from reading previous posts about recordings, it would appear that recordings are not available at all in the current version of TGE. I see "This function has temporarily been disabled!" in scripts/default.bind.cs
and the function referenced is not available at all.

Is this because recordings were causing too many crashes? I have never seen it or used it and I would really like to have some in-game cut scenes. What do you recommend?

I'm looking into the scripted cameras option..... as in features.mis, using waypoints, paths, and scriptgroups . This would do for my purposes.

Nmuta are you using kens book 3dpai1? theres an earlier version of the engine included with the book and i can confirm that recordings work with that version. if they were cut from a later version that really sucks cause its one of the coolest features of the engine.

Firstly...

Quote:one of the coolest features of the engine.

Being able to record is one of the coolest features? You're a strange cookie.

Secondly... Check out the movie maker resource. I'm too lazy to find the link. But if you search you will find it. It looks really good.

I know what you mean Sean. For my project, in-game session recordings are pretty much a vital feature -- it's even in the top 3 of my main features bullet listing. Essentially, in my setup, both players and judges will need to review sessions. Judges will score and rate performances based on session recordings. Goofy idea? Ok -- maybe -- but for my project, it really fits the theme.

Good luck Nmuta,

What's critical for me, though, is that whatever method is used, that playback must be 100% crx platform.

OK, the movie maker resource you were talking about is FRAPS. But then that raises the question: how is cross platform video playback possible in Torque? I think I remember reading a .plan or something about a guy in GG working on it for the next version of TGE but not sure. Please help clarify. Thanks.
