Hey Utah Devs Let's get together

by Dreamer · in General Discussion · 08/05/2005 (3:45 pm) · 34 replies

Hello everyone-
Due to a recent change in living arrangements (yet again),I'm back in Utah!
Actually I missed living here, and am very glad to be back.

Anyways I seem to remember a thread a few months ago, about the local indie community having a get together.
I searched and it looks like I missed it, but I thought it might be fun for us to all to get together anyways.

I have a friend who just had a big nice shiny new office building built, and he is willing to let us use the building after regular business hours, for meetings etc.

So I figured, I would see who wants to come!

We are talking about doing it once every quarter or so, so we should probably start working out another one in a few weeks.

Whereabouts in Utah are you Dreamer?

I think Utah County in general is a great place to live and do business in

So, back on topic... =P

It'd be cool to meet and see what everyone's up to...

(So... anyone else? C'mon, there's got to be more than 4 (er, 3) of us in Utah!)

We had 14 people show up at the gathering in June.

If you schedule it far enough out, I'd like to come. I'm in idaho, but as far as I know, theres only like 3 other GG'ers in Id. That makes utah the closest one I could get to.

Utah County: ugh, horrible small business death rate there.

Still nobody else... =\

Do we need to get this into a different forum maybe? Like maybe Torque Game Engine Public Area >> Discussion...

Hmm I thought thats where it was sitting.
Feel free to crosspost it to there if ya like.

Listen everyone, I would like to schedule this for somewhere around the end of August. It's not critical or anything, but it would be great to meet everyone, and I do have the resources and facilities to pull this off pretty nicely.

14-30 people would be about ideal considering the building size etc.

But hey on a slightly different topic, PLUG (Provo Linux Users Group), is having a presentation by Damian Conway, one of the biggest names in PERL, there's supposed to be all kinds of Shwag and admission is free.

It's taking place at UVSC Room CS404 at 6:30pm tonight.
Just thought I'ld let ya know.
More info Plug.org

Hope to see yall there!

Sorry - the 10th didn't work out for me.

How was the turnout?

It was approx 90% of the entire roles of all the LUGs present in Utah county, or roughly 40 people.
Pretty impressive I thought.
Didn't see anybody from here though :(
Oh well, I only knew about it like 24 hours in advance and only posted to GG with a few hours notice.

BTW if you ever get a chance to hear this man speak again, I highly recommend you make the effort to attend.
Anyone who can make Perl seem interesting, has GOT to be worth listening to.

FYI on the Schwag front, I walked away with a copy of Make magazine, evidently WAY more people showed than they had anticipated so, they wound up having to give out tickets, and holding a drawing for the schwag.

I'm in Provo... I went to the last event, but don't know whether I can make it to the August one. I might just have to wait. But I suppose that depends on where the meeting is as well.

I'm a newbie in the SLC area...would be interested in a get-together. I'd like to see what others are doing with Torque right now.

Just found this thread (Jay's here on this forum more than I). ;) Anyway, we just starting planning another Utah get together today. We'll be meeting at the Ninja Bee offices again in Pleasant Grove. Probably around 7 pm on one of the following dates: Sept. 20th, 21st, 22nd, 27th, 28th, 29th, Oct. 4th, or 5th. (I'm guessing it will be next week). Format will be like last time, an informal get together to chat, talk about the industry, see what others are doing, show off your current project, etc. If you want Pizza and munchies, bring some cash to chip in for that.

If you see this and you'd like to come, drop me a line here and let me know which days do or don't work for you. I hope to see some new faces there. There seem to be more and more Utah Indies around every time I look. (Definitely a good thing) :)

Just keep in mind that IGC is here in Eugene Oct 7-9th, so if anyone planned on attending that, your Oct dates may not work out so well.

Thanks Stephen, I'm definately aware of IGC as I'm going to be there myself. I've removed the 6th as an option, in case anyone is traveling that day. Also, my plane leaves on the 7th, but having an Indie Night the day before, is probably not good.
