You bring your own machines to all of the LAN parties I've seen...and it's very easy to cheat in Counter-Strike.

A newbie doesn't have that advantage, usually they log onto the server for the first time and get fragged 7 or 8 times in a row by a cheater who then proceeds to insult them about it. They don't learn anything and they quickly get frustrated, sometimes resorting to cheating themselves just because "everyone else does it."
No one likes that kind of crap, so most of the new players leave with a very bad impression of the developer and the game. That's the main reason companies should try curb cheating.

What I hate about cheaters is that they drive away new players in games.
