Making Buildings in Maya

First off. Hi! I'm new here.
I have recently joined the game development community and are realy wet behind the ears.
My problem:
I am building buildings in Quake Army Knife but its a mission to texture in the damn program. I get strange "artifacts" when OpenGL window is open. The texture manipulating window gets garbled with what I describe as a overwrite refresh error.
Thus I have to swap between wireframe/textured/openGL modes on the same freakin object when i move from face to face. Its frustrating.
My question:
Is it possible to model the buildings in Maya and export it to either Torque directly or to Quark. I heard that there is lighting problems with large structures in DTS format - stuff like self shaddowing problems.
I am very efficient in Maya and it would absolutely ROCK to model in it.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I am not one of our projects artist, so I know next to nothing about it... But I do know there is a maya dts exporter, if that helps any.

That will get you to the Torque for artist page, with all the details I have provided to my project's artists. Sorry I can't offer you more help.
