Can we use Poser Models with Torque?

by Erol Bozkurt · in Torque Game Engine · 07/31/2005 (2:21 pm) · 2 replies

Hi,

I'd like to use the models at www.daz3d.com (targeted at Poser: http://www.e-frontier.com/)
with the Torque Engine. Has anybody tried this before? Is it possible?

Thanks.

Erol

Game engines usually take advantage of low polygon models (2500-5000), Newer engines like TSE use 'normal' maps etc. to give the illusion of higher polygon counts. The models used in poser and Daz3d usually have polygon counts well over 30,000.

Nothing is impossible considering you do have the source code to the engine as well as the exporter source, but you might be better off just buying one of the many high quality model packs available here at GarageGames. These model packs work with Torque right out of the box, and will give you quite a bit of insight into real time game engine models.

Daz3d's eula specificly excludes redistribution of any derivitive mesh. which you would have to do if you distributed your game to anyone.

But what is allowed is using daz studio or poser to create texture maps for YOUR mesh based geometry, cut scenes (movie based) and any other image based production..
