Quark 6.3 or 6.4?

by Greg Berkhof · in Artist Corner · 07/18/2005 (10:41 pm) · 5 replies

Hey all, just need some opinions. I have heard that quark 6.4 is unstable, however, I like all the extra features it adds, perticularly for texturing, but i havnt looked into it in much detail. On the other hand, i have also heard that 6.3 is much more stable, but lacking said features.

Which version are you guys using? Thanks

I like to avoid both. :) Yes, Cartography Shop is the way to go.

But since you didn't ask about that...

I'd use 6.4; are you going to try and tell me that 6.3 was STABLE?

I appear to be mis-informed. I've heard alot about CS as well, I will definatly check that out\

Edit - tried it out breifly, I like it, very similar to WC/Hammer which i am used too. But $65, too much right now. Also, how is the exporter for dif?

Well... I've never gotten any exporter for Torque to work "Just right", so it might be best to ask someone else.

Keep in mind that there are no royalties, either.

Well I'm using 6.3 that comes with the default setup for Torque (somewhere around these forums there is a download with the exporter and 6.3 all set up and working) and I find it fine.

Sure it could be more stable but I found it to be more than stable enough to work with (i.e. it has never crashed taking my work with it) only stability issue is over the 3D viewport I've found.

Personally I'm going to look into creating a robust exporter for Blender to DIF as I feel this path would get the best results for me. (yes I realise there is the whole polysoup to BSP issue but what is life without a challenge?)

Way to go, Nigel, I also would love to be able to export to map (and dif) from Blender... :)
I am an artist, so I cannot help you at coding, but count with me for anything I can do for this to happen.
