Normal mapping

Hi
I am new here. I have a problem tht needs solving and was wondering if u guys could help me. I am a max 7 user and recently i have been trying to use max 7 to produce normal maps and using torque shaders to work on my models. When i tried to apply the normal map which i created in max to torque, nothing happened. When i looked at torque's normal map sample it seems like it is in colors of blues and not the ones which max 7 have produced out for me. Was wondering if i missed a step here. Hope you guys can help me. Tks in advance.

I don't believe that Torque supports normal mapping, but TSE does.

Steven, i'm not an expert but... (I'm guessing your trying to mod the TSE demos)

I make normal maps for TSE using a free photoshop plugin from Nvidia.

You can get more info by going to developer.nvidia.com/object/photoshop_dds_plugins.html

Hope it helps

Tks for replying guys.

Yeah u are rite Zero. I am actually experimenting on the TSE with a friend. It supports normal mapping. Was just figuring out how to get max 7 's normal mapping to work for the TSE.

Tks Joseph :) Tht is one other way to do the normal maps. I will give it a try.

Steven, I've had success exporting normal maps from Max. Your normal maps definitely should be made of mostly blues with gradations into other colors, mostly pastel-looking colors, like the sample normal maps you mentioned. It would help if you could post a link to the map you exported from Max so we could take a look at it.

These are the instructions I used to learn exporting normal maps from shapes in Max.

Btw, if anyone knows of a better tutorial or simpler method for doing this in Max, please post it here.
