Lightmaps question

I read in the TSE roadmap that in milestone 4 we'll have dynamic shadows. However, the terrain currently supports hi-res lightmaps and is being lit with them. So i was wondering... will the lightmap stuff be removed / changed when dynamic shadows are ready, or will dynamic lighting only affect dts (and/or dif) objects?

The terrain does not get lit by the lightmaps, currently. Where have you seen that?

It will have too support lightmaps eventually for the terrain blender mode too work. if they supported dynamic terrian lighting without lightmaps i would be in awe.

I'm a little unclear on what you just said, but I think I get the gist...

Yes, things are going to change for the next revision of Atlas, which should come after I get TGE 1.4 done. It'll be a marvelous time.

@Stefan: when I load the water demo after changing the .mis file, TSE says "lighting terrain" (or something like that) and generates .ml files, which are lightmaps i think

@hadoken - I believe Stef is refering to atlas(the new terrain engine in TSE and not the terrain as in tge). At the moment there is no lightmap associated with it (atlas).. but its very easy to add..(code in this thread) The "lighting terrain" you are seeing in mission load is from the old terrain system..

Of course I'm referring to Atlas, as this is the Shader forums :) Didn't know you (Hadoken) was still using an older HEAD.

I'm using a head of a few days ago, with atlas of course... it might be that lightmaps are not actually used, but it does say "lighting mission" and generates an ml file

Sure. But a lot of things besides the terrain are lit. And currently in TSE, the Atlas terrain is not lightmapped, but other things are.
