Point-Level Animation in Maya?

I recently made and animated a weapon, the weapon requires Point-Level Animation. When I imported the animation into Maya, the Point-Level Animation information was lost (though the translation/rotation animation was intact). I am not familiar with animation in Maya, and can not find tutorials on Point-Level Animation. Is PLA possible in Maya, and how can it be done?
Thank you,

Now, however, I still have a problem trying to reanimate my model in Maya: when I move the points, and record my keyframe, the points end up in a completely different place then where I recorded the keyframe. I figured the position of the points was probably being transformed by the hierarchy or something, but taking the model out of the hierarchy and Freezing Transformations did not help the problem.
Has anyone else run into this problem, or know how it is caused?
Thank you,
Will
