Anna and Victor and the others.
Hello from Minsk, Belarus.
I'm working in webdev company. Our firm is represented in USA, Japan, and UK by local companies.
They advertises our services and works with clients. We share 25-50% of profits with them.
In other words, our rate is $10/hour per programmer, our partners sell it as $20/hour.

Ten dollars by the hour is enough to employ the best web programmers here (we are focused only on programming) . The business is going well.

Although my boss wants to start gamedev business also, so I'm learning about it in the hope to take up a good post in a new company :)

Hello Anna,
Instead of the USA have you considered other countries? My company currently runs an outsourcing Business out of Calcutta India and have the ability to offer our clients very qualified programmers or artists for 5 times less money than what you would be paying in the USA.

Please send me off an email to webmaster_at_netflowdevelopments.com and let me know what kind of staff you are looking for specifically and I'll get back to you regarding what we can offer.

Cheers
Ryan

2 Ryan
thank you for your proposal.
Probably it was not clear from my add but we do ourselves look for
opportunities of outsourcing. It means that we want to offer our
services for that companies in the USA which outsource some amount of
the work overseas. At the same time in future we would like to open
our own office when we find out that it is profitable. And may be to
find a company or a person which would like to represent us on spot.

2 Ruslan

well, I have been also thinking about it
20-50% of profit...hmmm..
We will see how it goes. Is not it more promising to find a person, like a sales who will offer the services from his home? I thought it would be enough to pay him\her 5% of profit. Is it so?

I know that as we have tried to find investors, one of the production houses we are thinking about is in russia (nikitova) and people are afraid to do business with people they cant meet.

If I were you, Id either move to New York (its known for being a commerce center) or somewhere in The South (Atlanta, Florida, Tennessee) for the low cost of living.

I used to live in St. Petersburg...in an obshezhitye near the Smolny Monastary...such a beautiful city you have.

Good luck!

See , moving to the place where nobody knows you is not so thoughtful I guess. At first I need to understand if it works for us or not.
I know that many companies use the help of outsourcing facilities. And yes, you are right it is common deal that most of them want at first to meet you in person to see the artists and so on. At the same time there companies already which have the experience of work with the companies overseas and they are more flexible about starting new contract with new company if they like their quality and feel that they can trust peeps there.
That is really funny that living in 21 century, the century of enormous speeds, Internet, 3D animation ) )) and things like that we are still so much depending on personal contact, the possibility to look into someone's eyes ....Can we call it real businessman' approach to the item?

Maybe you could hire a video producer to create a short but high quality "Meet the Team" type DVD/AVI, just sort of touring your place of business, mini-interviews with the artists and management, a few shots of your city / neighborhood, and of course work samples. I always see work samples, but rarely see photos of the actual team members and never see photos of their facility... it could be at least something to offer to those a little apprehensive about doing business with those they haven't met.

Also one can read about us in Casino Review and Casino World.
Still, there is no my picture there. If you want I can send you it to the private e-mail address personally along with the city sites)))
And yes we are also planning to create a presentation on DVD telling people about us as about people ) . We have one presentation already but just as portfolio.

Cool! Well I see you're one step ahead of me then. Those are great ways to build professionalism above and beyond the quality of your work (which speaks for itself).
