Weird error when lighting mission

by Paul Fassett · in Artist Corner · 06/29/2005 (10:44 am) · 12 replies

I have an area that is quite huge which I have not yet added any static lighting to of any kind, and when I go to load up my map it crashes with the generic windows error halfway through lighting the mission. I went through and deleted all micro brushes and got rid of any errors that existed in the .dif and reexported. I still get the same error. The console log stops here.

*** Phase 3: Mission Lighting
Lighting mission....
Missing terrain texture: Purgatory/data/missions/demo1/data/terrains/grassland/grass
Missing terrain texture: Purgatory/data/missions/demo1/data/terrains/grassland/patchy
Missing terrain texture: Purgatory/data/missions/demo1/data/terrains/grassland/sand

Any idea what could be causing this? It's worked up until now and I haven't changed anything at all in the .mis file. I'm sure it's a quark error, but not sure whats causing it.

Any one?

Did you change the name of the .ter file and not change its reference in the corresponding mis file ?

It is something to do with the ter file... You may have changed hte names of the textures or deleted them while trying to load a .ter file with those textures stlil there.

Like I said, I haven't changed anything that has to do with the mission. Just the .dif file.

Example, I started up a new mission and loaded my dif into it. Then I hit relight scene and it crashed.

Try running the debug? it gives better error messages.

Try placing accompanying textures in that directory and see if it works then

I don't have a debug version compiled unfortunatly. Has anyone run into this error before?

@chris: I tried replacing the textures in the scene like you suggested and I still got the same error. From my understanding if the engine doesn't find a texture for the terrain it replaces it with the detail or the vertex color. So that shouldn't have an effect on my problem.

Ok so after much deliberation I deleted half of my map, just to ensure my suspicions were right, after I loaded the .dif in it loaded up fine. Of course I lost about 2 weeks worth of work, but it's there. YAY ME!!

Not to mention this is about the fourth time I have had to do this with both the map2dif and map2difplus exporters.

Is there a way I can check to find the bad brush in my map that is causing this error? I did all the search commands quark allows and deleted all bad brushes, holes, and microbrushes it came up with but I still get the error until I delete the entire room then it works. ANYONE PLEASE. This is not the first time I have wasted a whole day pulling out my hair over a brush but it will be the first time I have lost an entire map.

No one has ever had this error?

I got bad crashes mostly from stairs with small brushes and other complex shapes, so i made them detail brushes.
Got the crash when i rotated the buildings , if i only placed them without any rotating it worked fine , i always got the crash when i relighted the mission.
Not so much help but atleast something to think of.

Well I have abandoned all hope for fixing my map. I have since bought Cartography shop and will redo the whole level in it. It's a shame to see all that work down the shitter.

It's a shame theres no release date for the constructor. I aould have waited for it if they were to release it soon.
