I love me some Painter. I'd like to see some new attempts at mimicking paint.

Crazy... I don't see how they plan on upping Photoshop or PSP at this point. On the other hand they are MS... will give it a spin.

Well, Painter doesn't try to up Photoshop. It really is useful for different things. Photoshop isn't a replacement for Painter, and vice versa. However, it sounds like this program is going to try to do what BOTH of those programs do (at least the graphic design part of Photoshop). Though I'm not sure if "illustration" to them is vector art. Also, Photoshop specializes in photo manipulation, and this program doesn't at all sound like it focuses on that. If it handles vector art, it could give Painter a run for its money. And if it's cheaper than Photoshop, graphic designers who want realistic looking paint may go for it. I'm sure Photoshop will remain king of photo manipulation. And it's going to be hard to beat Painter's technology.
