Crazy Classroom

by Joseph "Dirty Columbian" Simpson · in Game Design and Creative Issues · 06/21/2005 (7:45 pm) · 58 replies

I was thinking about a game where a school has a mini "war" between the grades and classes, where students made mini weapons out of rubberbands and paperclips, nothing lethal or seriously damaging, that can be found on the ground in the hallway or on a desk or in your backpack or something of that sort. I thought that this might not be a good idea because of the obvious legal complications. What do you think? Is the possibility of liability issues to great for this kind of game?

That could make sense. hmm why would they be brainwashing them? maybe... aliens invaded earth and took over the tearchers for it..... dunno... and for the last few levels you'd be fighting alien kids.... ya.. that's silly.

For some reason I'm hearing pink floyd in my head now.
"We don't need no education. We don't need no thought control....."

Nah, screw the aliens, that's just stupid (and have been done before, maybe not in a game but still). And actually... if you ask me you really don't need any "story" or explaination for this one. As long as the game is fun that is.

Well i want it to have a somewhat story line (like halo2, its mainly a multiplayer game, but it still has a good storyline). if you have any suggestions magnus, you should post them. story line is what gets people to pick up the game, multiplayer is what makes them keep it.

When it comes to indie games I'm all for keeping things simple. While reading this thread I've viewed the game as more or less multiplayer only. No need for a story then... =)

I wish I could come up with some complicated story for you, but right now I simply don't have the time. People got me working my ass off, hehe.

What are you working on? and yea this is going to be mainly a multiplayer game, but i still think it should have a storyline, simple (if interesting) is better. and i meant just suggestions, no need to come up with a whole story line in one sitting.

Well, I sort of like the idea of mind controlling teachers in best pink floyd fashion, it's simple, it's effective and it need no further forced explanation like aliens. (I'm awfully sick of using aliens as an excuse though so I may be biased).

Wow that seems like pretty complicated stuff. RPGs are hard enough to play, i can't imagine having to make one!! I think you may have a point about the forced explanation. thanks for the input. good work on the 3d art too.

Mind control is a great idea!
and insted of aliens, maybe the teachers wanted a raise in payment, so they wanted to teach students that will tell the principle how good the teachers are, so they will get a the raise. and then some kid found out and started war with the teachers and other students.

And a *new* weapon, stink-bombs!
and a power-up: a loly-pop that gives you more energy for 1 min.

Good idea. i had an idea about the different characters and their different strengths and weaknesses. jocks could hit harder but be less accurate, nerds could be more accurate but less powerful, cheerleaders could be less likely to be hit by anybody, but not very aggressive. what else am i missing?

I like the mind control idea minus the aliens maybe but just like someone said, I don't think this game would really need any kind of complicated story to be fun. Just give a brief explanation of whats going on and maybe have some art to tell the simple story as well. Like a pic of a teacher peeking around a corner behind a student with big eyes and her hands stretched out while the student is holding his head and other students have swirlies in their eyes from already being posessed. I would want a story, it just doesn't have to be deep at all.

Joseph how old are you? I think I want to help you but I'm not sure how serious or experienced you are at managing a team and seeing a project through to the end. This is a fun idea but can you handle it?
