Mac Demos

I went to download the Mac demos for T2D and noticed they aren't there anymore.

Has an 'issue' arose with the Mac side of things?

Are they being updated for Tiger?

Just tried to download them and it seems fine.

Shooter Demo: ftp://demos.garagegames.com/t2d/T2D-ShooterDemo_1_0_1.dmg
Fish Demo: ftp://demos.garagegames.com/t2d/T2D-FishDemo_1_0_0.dmg

Or are you referring to something else?

Thank you for your quick reply.

I didn't see the direct ftp links for the Mac. On the T2D product page (http://www.garagegames.com/products/62), the links download the .exe files.

Were these ftp links posted elsewhere for the Mac?

I downloaded a Mac version of a Member WIP project and it didn't work very well on my G5. Hence the concern. I do understand that WIP = buggy.

Thanks.

I found those links, by clicking on the T2D product page, then the Download Demo graphic, and the download button just below where it asks for your email address.

It could just be that the WIP project you downloaded is buggy/poorly coded. AFAIK there are no problems with T2D on a Mac, but I'm a Windows person and haven't actually used the Mac version.

T2D works great on my powerbook, excepting that whole sound thing. I have Tiger.

Thanks again.

I went about halfway down the page to the graphics of the tech demos. (PC links only.)

Demos look great. Count me in!

Hi

I was wondering:

I have purchased TGE license - do I get a discount on T2D? (Is that the $80 price tag?)
Do I need any other tools other than T2D and photoshop? (I noticed for TGE I needed several other tools - some of which didn't run on a Mac)
Any chance of seeing the T2D documentation - or is that supplied when I download?
Would T2D be suitable for classic style adventure games?

Many thanks

Andy

1. Yep, 20$ discount.
2. Photoshop should be the only thing you'll need. Unless you want sound.
3. Supplied with the download.
4. I think so. :)

Yup, as a TGE owner, you can get the discounted price for T2D.

As to tools, it depends what you want to do. If you want to entirely script your game, then T2D and a graphics app should do it. Some sound software would also be handy.

If you want to make changes to the engine, you'll need a compiler. I don't know if there is an equivalent of TBE for the Mac, but I'm sure others will be able to help you.

The documentation is supplied as a few PDFs when you buy T2D. There is also loads of info in the private forums.

As to classic adventure games, I don't see why not, but which games are you refering to? The old Space Quest/Kings Quest type games? It should do those without too many problems. It mostly comes down to what you're capable of ;)

Many thanks for the lightning fast response :-)

Sound s/w: I hadn't thought of sound effects? any recommendations? As for music, I can created mp3s from Apple's garageband. I presume T2D can play mp3s (or MIDI?)

TBE? As for Compiler: I have X-code for MacOS X 10.4

As for type of adventures, yes, I was refering to Space Quest / LucasArts type of adventure. As for my capabilities... I've developed countless games on now obsolete machines and developed programs for Mac (including a key-frame in-betweener which I hope will be useful for sprite creation). That was MacOS 9 though...

I also hope to collaborate with my 14 year old son who does amazingly funny "games" with powerpoint. I hope to move him over to a more promising development environment

IIRC you need to pay a license to include MP3 playback in your software, so T2D doesn't do it. It will play .wav and .ogg files - don't know what else as they're the only two that I've tried.

Xcode is the officially supported compiler/IDE on Macs for Torque.
