Is Torque right for me? (newbie)

I am looking for a program that my adult kid and myself can play around with. We want to make a very simple game where about 10 people can log in that is heavy in chat and game play is secondary sort of like the old VRML that was out years ago. She wants to play around with the graphics and maping I want to learn to program both of us are very very new to this. I have a little VB programming.
We have been playing around with the Gamestudio A6 demo and like it. It is VERY easy to set up a world and drop a "player" in it and be able to walk around. Looking at the "demo" of Torque is seem it can do a lot more but I do not see the simple GUI for creating a game that we saw with A6.
My question is I am ready to buy the program we will use and Torque sounds great but is it the right program for 2 newbies who know almost nothing?
Second is if she is going to make the levels (sky cube, houses, trees, ect) and I will take that and try to add players, program the chat, an e-mail system, BBS, and do what I want to do that is make a game to go around and kill some trolls, skellies, ect with swords and magic.
lastly is there a good supply of demos, scripts, models, and all that I can draw from to learn.

What I mean by that is, it depends on how far you really want to go into learning game development.
For all intents and purposes, you could essentially compile the stock Torque executable and simply ply the scripts (much like A6) to get your results, the difference is that it's much more complex than anything I ever experienced with Acknex.
The thing is, Torque is (IMO) significantly more flexible and robust than A5 was (haven't used A6), but with that extra power comes added complexity.
If you're serious about learning Game Development, then yes, Torque is an excellent product - AAA professional quality engine - on the other hand, if you truly just want to tinker, you'll see faster results from a less complicated engine.
Of course, this is all just my personal opinion, so take it with a grain of salt. (C;

Ken - as an ex A5 user myself, I have to say that the answer toy our question is a bit complicated... "depends".What I mean by that is, it depends on how far you really want to go into learning game development.

Theres tons of resources to learn from, and TGE comes with two demo games, three if you include the "blank" one.
Hopefully someone else will come along and tell you more. (>.<)
