Hey,
I have a problem exporting my model from 3ds Max. I have the skeleton attached to my mesh without any problems, but when I export it and try to view it in showTool or in the game, all I get is the skeleton and the mesh didnt export with it.

Well I haven't gotten an error or experienced any problems with them, so how would I know if they're set up correctly?

Otherwise have a look at your dump.dmp file and see if you can find what goes wrong.

If you post a screenshot of your schematic view in max I'll check if I can see anything that doesn't look right.Otherwise have a look at your dump.dmp file and see if you can find what goes wrong.

The first thing I can see is that the multires mesh should be linked to the skinned one.

Also, if you're going to export the finger links to your skeleton you have to be a bit careful as they have numbers last in their names. In some cases the exporter might take these as meshes rather than bones so the best way is probably to rename them.

Ok, I did those, but it still doesnt work.

Other than that there's nothing I can see that might go wrong from just this. If the model is a max 6 (or lower, I haven't upgraded to 7 yet) file I'll be happy to take a look at it and see if I can figure it out.

Okay. Do you have the LODs set up properly on the multires mesh? There's a script somewhere that does it for you, or you could do it manually in the "User properties".Other than that there's nothing I can see that might go wrong from just this. Yeah, its max 6. I'll e-mail it to you if you tell what address to send it to.

Did you add the multires detail data properly to the Multires nodes object properties?

Ok, I sent it. Thanks a lot for taking the time to look at it.

I posted a script that automatically sets up the multires mesh a while ago.

The multires:: mesh is completely messed up... it should be a snapshot of the skinned mesh (in the exact same position), be linked to the skinned mesh and have the same name (that is multires::Ruby).I posted a script that automatically sets up the multires mesh a while ago.

Is that the reason it doesnt export properly?

I don't have time to try it out right now I'm afraid, but most likely; yes.

Well, I ran the script and it still doesnt export right. It's not just this model, I have the same problem when I try to export the "player.max" from the MAX2DTS file pack.

I suggest you start by cleaning up the mesh and then worry about the exporting.

I tried exporting the file now, there's something horribly wrong with this model. First of all it look quite strange in max (a lot of faces show up where they doesn't quite seem to belong). It seemed to export alright, but when I tried to load it in showtool pro all hell broke loose, showtool seem to have gone into some sort of loop so after a couple of minutes it was using 1.5 gigs of memory....I suggest you start by cleaning up the mesh and then worry about the exporting.
