Animating in 3d Max R4

Hey when I try to animate my model only part of the object moves. The only part that moves is the part that the bone passes through, anything it doesn't "touch" stays in the same spot. I was wondering if anyone knew what to do. Or if anyone understood what I said...

Ok I got the stuff to move now, but when I move one bone, it distorts the rest of the model.

Did you build your bones using FK or IK? I think you might have used FK instead of IK and thats why your bones are distorting.
Have you setup the rotation limits on your bones properly?
Did you setup the linking on your bones properly?

They are IK Bones...

If the verticies do not lie within a bones specific envelope they will not be affected by the movement of the bone. You will have to fix this by editing the bones envelopes (or by painting its influence).
