Why build a game engine when you can build your own console!

I'm always impressed by those that take on the project of building a game engine from scratch, which is said to be a great educational tool. Well for those hardcore enough, why stop at making a game engine when you can make a game console? No more whining about Sony licensing fees, or steep X-box developer kits!

With hardware 20x more powerful than a SNES, T2D developers should feel right at home. Heck, why not build T2D into the system natively via a flash ROM chip?

I'm told through the grapevine that to follow-up on the challenge of Game in a Day (GID) will be Game Engine in a Day, followed by Console in a Day. Can't wait!

Anyway, this is something cool that I found that hadn't been posted on these boards yet so I thought I'd put up the link.

The XGameStation was put on hold because of educational concerns. The micro edition is pretty sweet, though. More on the early/mid-level Atari hardware. Fun little system.

"Educational concerns?" What the heck does that mean?

I remember hearing about this one a couple years back, and then nothing.

They decided it was too complex to use as a teaching tool for people new to electronics. So they scaled it back.
