Fixed) If you can see this, I cannot

by Gonzo T. Clown · in Site Feedback · 05/10/2005 (11:20 am) · 20 replies

Every forum I visit says empty but the number of posts since my last visits keeps growing. I can only assume that others are not having this problem. I can surf the site, view my garage, etc.. but I cannot view any posts and every forum claims to be brand new and I can start a topic if I would like. Once again I want to repeat, I cannot see this post. I don't even know if anyone else can see it. But if you can, please make a note that the site is completely empty for me as far as community goes.

Thanks

I can see this post ... does your browser allow cookies?
[Edit] oh, forgot, you can't read this ...

No I cannot read it, but I did remember to set "Notify me at.." just in case. Everything was working perfectly last night. This morning I came and started browsing posts, and everything was fine until I tried to post a response to this thread...

www.garagegames.com/mg/forums/result.thread.php?qt=25784

When I did, it told me that only members could post and I would need to sign up or log in. But I was already logged in. As previously stated, I can browse "My Garage" view the blogs, and even post comments to the blogs. And apparently I can post in the forums even though I cannot see a single thread(even my own). Click on the posts I posted, or the resources I have submitted turns up empty pages with this message "No threads were found that matched your query". Thats what I get no matter what I try to view.

I have since logged out, and back in, no problems there. I logged out, cleared all my cookies and caches, and logged back in. No effect. This really bites. I'm very badly needing to get a resource from GG to integrate ASAP. Dirk, if it's not to much trouble, It would be a huge favor to me if you could download XoClutch's "Encrypted Zip" resource and mail it to me. It was posted in the last 48 hours and shouldn't be hard to find in the recent submissions.

TIA and thanks for the response. I'll monitor this thread through my email.

An update for Rick O. (I'm guessing)

I tried shutting down Firefox, clearing IE's cache's and cookies completely the manual way and with a 3rd party cleaner as well. Then I logged in with IE instead of FireFox. No difference at all. This is definately a Site/Account issue and not a browser issue.

Please Help. I never knew how addicted to this site I was till I couldn't see it anymore

Rick, yes, no change. I have since found that I can post on blogs, but sometimes my posts just vaporize. No matter what forum I visit(I can see all forums and the numbers of posts in each and all looks fine untill I actually enter one and then I get nothing but this...

Quote:This forum contains no thread topics.
You can start a new thread topic to get things going!

Resources seem to be working fine for me, I can manage my account and preferences, log out and back in, I can see all current data in respects to "posts since last visit", my posting status, etc.. but when I try to do anything community related it's like there is no community yet, all the forums are empty. If I click "Read Unread Posts" I get "No results matched your query", and even though I can actually view threads via a direct link in the url bar if I try to post a response I get 403 Forbidden.

I have no clue how the site is set up of course, but I would say take a look at where my account varaibles are checked against the community membership parameters. The site appears to see me normally everywhere except the forums. If I come up with anything else that might help I'll post it.

Matthew and FruitBat - I'm really curious, you both claim you are having the same problem so what I'm wondering is, since I cannot see my own posts, nor can I see anyone else's posts, and assuming both of you are experiencing the exact same conditions, how did you both find my post? Is it the only one you see? Or are you guys experiencing different levels of visibility?

Thanks for any info guys.

Rick, I'm not a web expert by any means, but on this new server, wouldn't the lines like this....

<a href="/mg/forums/result.forum.php?qs=1&qur=1">Read Unread Posts</a>

need to be upgraded to this...

<a href="/mg/forums/result.forum.php?qs=1&qur=1">Read Unread Posts</a>

to be compliant since you are not using ';' to end your statements?

If you log out you can browse all the non-restricted forums, like this one :) So I log out browse, copy the url to the board, log in and paste it to link directly to it (similar to how you can access through the notify system)...

I also have a friend who is allowing me to log in his account, so I can browse the T2D forums (though he doesn't have TGE so no luck there) and I can do the same thing... though I sometimes get the forbidden error when posting after accessing it through the pasted link, sometimes I dont though.

EDIT: in passing variables through links and using Get to grab them you just seperate them with a "&"

I'm having the same problem. However, I CAN search for something with search terms and it returns results. So I can see stuff, I just can't browse or Read Unread Posts. DUnno if this helps narrow down what the problem is.

@gonzo - yeah using & is correct, it would take me weeks/months to upgrade all the links in all the code for the entire site. It works for now.

I stand corrected. "&" suprisingly never run accross this before (though just searched it up and seems very usefull). Learn something new every day!

everything works now, like the new look too Rick.

Matthew - Thanks, I didn't try browsing while logged out, lol. I've been logged in for years and just never considered it.

@ Rick - Roger that. I would be more than willing to assist you in making those changes or even take on the project completely if you wished. I'm by no means a certified web author, but I've been coding for decades and I know how to find the root of a problem and the correct solution to it via research. I do have experience with webpages, I've just never made them a priority. I know you are busy and I don't mind donating some time.

About my intitial problems, so far things seem to be working fine for me. Thank you very much.

Spoke to soon...

I still cannot post anything formatted for code on this thread...

www.garagegames.com/mg/forums/result.thread.php?qt=25784

EDIT: Correction, I cannot post code with the " [ c o d e ]" tags at all.

Well, maybe I can post on *this* thread... I can't seem to post anything on mine. Just wanted to add my name to the list of people having this problem. I can't seem to reply with any consistency even on posts that I created. Very frustrating. I removed the [ c o d e ] tag from my last attempt at posting but I still get 403 Forbidden every time. :-(

403 is caused by a "TAB" within your text.
