Error: "More than one bounds node found"
by Mugz · in Torque Game Engine · 01/07/2002 (1:58 pm) · 22 replies
I keep getting this "More than one bounds node found" error. I have 3d studio max 4 and I was trying to export my vehicle models with the DTS exporter tool that I downloaded at http://www.settlers.net/bcentral/
Anyone have any idea why it is giving me this error? I tried it with a few different vehicles but it always gave me that error.

What my good friend James means (hi Def =O) ) is that you have 2 or more boxes named bounds. To correctly export you need just 1 box named bounds which will cover the whole model, so your model should fit inside the bounds box. Please make sure it stay's in the box when you have done animations.

I looked at the list of objects in the file but there was only one thing called Bounds. I tried renaming it to Bounds2 but still the same error as before...

Could you paste/screenshot your Max hierarchy here?

Oh, since it doesn't show the indentions, I put these > to represent spaces at the beginning of the line.Bounds

Are you using groups? If you are, try getting rid of the group.

Still got the same problem. It just started happening. One day I was able to export things and then the next, I got that error. It was kind of strange and unexpected.

What is that damage thing, Is that a node or a mesh, sequence node maybe???

I think it is a node but even before I put that in, it still would give me the error.

Does that help you?

You can only have one.

I downloaded the file and you have several bounding boxes in the scene (I counted 3).You can only have one.

OK I just deleted the two things that I think you were talking about, tried to export it again, and I had no luck. Still the same error :( But I uploaded the changed version just so maybe someone can try again. Here is the link again: http://mugzzzy.topcities.com/maxfiles/vehicle_air_hapc2_detail.zip

So since I'm not extremely familiar with 3d-s-max, how do I get rid of some of those subtrees?
I'm assuming that you were right and that bounds node problem is now fixed. :D

Well, now I am getting this error lol: "Too many subtrees: t2Autodetail only works with single subtree objects"So since I'm not extremely familiar with 3d-s-max, how do I get rid of some of those subtrees?

the subtrees error means you are linking objects to more than one subtree, in other words more than one object, the exporter is unable to export this, also the bounds error is due to two bounds boxes on a single model, it is probably hiden or frozen

There are so many problems with that file that will keep it from exporting that I honestly don't have the time to answer the hundred or so questions you will need answered in order to get it to export.
The file you uploaded is three shapes in one. It appears that several vehicle files were merged into one MAX scene. You need to clean it up and get it down to one model before it will even get close to exporting.
There are multiple bounding boxes, multiple Collision markers, multiple LOSCol markers, and it appears many of them have become renamed (incorrectly) in the merging process and will prevent your file from exporting.
You can prevent the T2 Autodetail error by commenting out that line in the .CFG file that is in the same directory as your max file.
I do not mean to be rude, but I cannot spend the time helping you anymore. Please try to learn a little bit more about the basic functionality of MAX and read some of the old posts on exporting DTS shapes, as they will answer the majority of the questions you most probably will have.
Good luck.
