These may be below the level of a lot of people in this community, but there's people here of all skill levels and interests so I thought I'd post this anyway.
Microsoft is offering a series of live webcasts on general/generic game development concepts from May 3rd to May 26th. It's a powerpoint presentation along with live app demos and a live speaker/presenter and you can ask questions during the presentations to be answered by the speaker -- basically a "virtual meeting."
Check here for full details. They're free.

As the first educational institution in the world to offer a Bachelor of Science degree program in Game Development, DigiPen Institute of Technology introduces participants to the concepts of video game production in this webcast series. Presenters will demonstrate the key stages in the process of developing the core game engine through the creation of a "top-down shooter" game called "Star Trooper," using Visual C# 2005 Express Edition, the new lightweight integrated development environment from Microsoft designed for beginner programmers. If you want to build the game yourself as you follow along, can download Visual C# 2005 Express Edition.

Huh? Anyway, really cool - especially as it's free ;) Doesn't help me all that much since it seems a bit different from C.. but still very nice.

Heck, if that's not a fun way to learn C# I don't know what is. I'm gonna do it just for that reason alone. Nice find.

@Stefan: I said that because I only watched the first one before I posted this, and it was REALLY basic ("This is a sprite...")

Say what you will about Microsoft, I think this is a really good idea. A lot of us who have been doing this for some time take or granted the learning curve of techniques/skills and the general difficulty of gaining entry into the games industry. Something basic like this is just what the virtual doctor ordered for many, I imagine.

This was the first webcast I've watched, in fact until I noticed this post, I didn't know they existed. Well worth watching, even if a lot of them are targetted towards c#.
