I didn't find out about the last one until after it had happened. It seems to me like they don't really tell you about them until the Friday of... and only in IRC.

That's what i was trying to avoid. GID organizers, if you're reading this, any chance of posting a news item, or even a thread, like on the thursday before? This would be much appreciated.

Announcing a GID requires at least two very busy people to have enough time to remind each other that it needs announcing, news items writing, etc. The last GID went right down to the line before being announced because everyone was very, very busy that week.
We are starting to organise GIDs 3 in advance now to try and combat this a bit. This is the first time we've organised it this far in advance so expect some teething issues.
Ben B will be posting a news item today with the upcoming GID dates, but as John says, the next one is May 7th and 8th :)

John is right, the best way to get the latest info is to hang out in the IRC channel.
