Camera rotation request
by Tim Doty · in Torque Game Builder · 04/16/2005 (2:02 pm) · 42 replies
As far as I can tell there is no way to rotate the camera in T2D. All objects could be mounted to a single invisible object and rotated to achieve the effect except that this would interfere with object movement.
Just suggesting this as a possible feature.

A second for implementation of this. A classmate of mine needed to switch to TGE for a 2D game purely in order to be able to achieve this. I would also need the rotaton feature heavily in a few central features of my current game project. Having it as a supported feature would be exceptionally great.

Is this at all possible?

Would there be a way to do this without modifying the source code? I.e. Rotating and displacing all objects in a level around the character with a world matrix? I'm not sure how many collision problems this may potentially occur or how much engine stress it would cause, but it seems like an option for people who do not own the TGB pro license. Is this at all possible?

This function would be extremely useful in iTGB, allowing the scene to stay horizontal as the user rotates the device.

I do admit that this would be a very nice feature to have and not *that* hard to create. Let me have a think about it for the weekend, have a chat to GG and see what I can promise. :)

I just wanted to point out that you promised that the feature would definitely be in the next release of TGB, but it was not added to the new release of TGB (1.7.5)!!

As you know TGB 1.7.5 was primarily a bug-fix release to satisfy TGB users while the next MAJOR engine version is being developed.
Assuming TGB = Torque2D is incorrect.

Added as a feature implementation for TGB in 2008 (not implemented). Taken correctly in context you should know I was subsequently referring to the v2.0 e.g. Torque 2D (where it was added). As you know TGB 1.7.5 was primarily a bug-fix release to satisfy TGB users while the next MAJOR engine version is being developed.
Assuming TGB = Torque2D is incorrect.

I do not see anything for rotate camera in Torque 2D. The demo downlaoad for Torque 2D is still TGB 1.7.5. Can someone please explain.

Torque2D is still in development.

TGB 1.7.5 = T2D 2009

With the launch of the new site we rolled out the new naming scheme and branding to all our current engines. Thus TGB's name became Torque 2D 2009, though I believe the installer is still called TGB.TGB 1.7.5 = T2D 2009
