WeaponSplash particle emitters not working in 1.4?

I know the 1.4 codebase is still a work in progress but I was curious as
to why the particle emitters that are used when a projectile impacts something aren't working. When you fire the default crossbow at the default terrain or any other object, it fires the bolt just fine, but the only
effect occuring upon impact is the yellow light flare. There are quite a few
explosion effects that aren't occuring and I haven't noticed any errors.
Is this problem universal or just me? =)
(Another edit: I've tried the assault rifle from bravetree's girl pack and
had the same result, minus the light flare.)
I'm going to try a clean codebase without diffs and see if that works.
