Player skins and materials

Whats the plan for player skins in TSE.? At the moment they do not work with materials. You can change skins OR have a material assigned to your player. Is this something to be addressed later or should we go ahaead and develop a work around now?

I have a player model with texture base.armor.human.
with no matterial mapping set for this texture,
Changing skins works (ie setskin(red) sets the texture to red.armor.human) just like TGE.
If I add material mapping entry for base.armor.human. setskin(red) does change skinname. But the material never changes.
