Huge Models

by Chris Labombard · in Artist Corner · 04/09/2005 (5:24 pm) · 3 replies

Our models keep coming out huge. We are using 3dsmax6... My artist opened up Jill, the bravetree girl jill.max file..... then imported the model we want, scaled it to the right size, to about the size of Jill's boots, then deleted Jill and saved it... When he exported it it was like 5 times the height of jill....

Can anyone help us with this scaling peoblem?

You have to reset the scale after you scale your stuff down. If you hit F12 to bring up the display whil you're using the scale tool, you will probably see that with your scaled down model, it still shows how much it's been scaled down by in the absolute:local field. This is bad. To reset it, go to the hierarchy tab and click on "scale" under "reset xform". Hope that helps.

From the GG exporter docs:
"Reset x-form does it's work by sticking a modifier in the 3DSMAX modifier stack. This adds additional data that must be interpreted by 3DSMAX in order to output the correct data, and it is not always correct or accurate. It works, but it has proved problematic in the past on certain shapes."
