Game Release EULA and T2D logo

by Dave "Jellybit" Freeman · in Torque Game Builder · 04/02/2005 (11:51 am) · 68 replies

In the EULA for Torque 2D, it says the following:

(b) Licensee agrees to display a full screen Torque 2D logo in the start up sequence of any game created and released with the Engine.

This logo, it exists at "SDK\example\T2D\client\images\background.png", correct? Is it ok if I make the background black or textured? Or does it have to remain exactly the same? Can it be animated into the screen? The reason I ask, is that a white background doesn't really fit into the artistic design of this game. But I also understand that giving the ok on this could lead to situations that BORDER on "displaying the logo".

I just want to know what kind of artistic design freedom I have with this initial screen. Or maybe I have to get your approval before release?

I'm so used to console development... They have tons of rules regarding the display of the startup logo, and what you can (or more precisely, "can't") do with it. I always thought those rules were strange, seeing as the logo disappears before game code is even loaded and running.

This is the temporary one I made, but I think it might be a good idea for you guys to offer white and black background versions of the intro logo. That's what Sega did, when they had third parties display their logo for their consoles.

What "debacle" are we talking about? Someone wanting to make the T2D logo screen slightly different? People wanting to perhaps have several options to choose from for logo screens? Or people not wanting to have logo screens at all? Because the first two are perfectly reasonable suggestions.

I think a lot of us are a bit tired of this due to the fuss over it all lately (with the indie forums as well)... just a whole lot of fuss over a very small matter :) Things could have probably gone about a much more productive way

At the end of the day, the EULA was available to you BEFORE you purchased this product, it is available to you after as well, and if n e changes are made to it u'll have access to it still. So why after having the chance to see what you are letting youself in for would you go and complain, it is what it is and as already stated if u wanted to make a minor mod. to the t2d splash, it prob. wouldnt be the end of the world....

Actually, it was stated that there cannot be any alterations to the logo whatsoever. The person who you're thinking of didn't say anything defninitively. He said he didn't know for sure, but he personally didn't see a problem with it. Anyway, I personally am not complaining. I just wanted clarification. Clarification with a suggestion that they give two versions of the logo. Black background and white background. That way, no one would alter anything, and it's quite easy to change the color of two objects (black to white, and white to black) if you have the original logo files. People would have a choice, and everything would be controlled and official. But it was already stated that it wouldn't happen. And that's exactly what I was asking for. Clarification.

Official word. Their engine, their EULA, their rules. Sounds like the end of discussion to me :).

I wish that's all it took to let this thread die.

Wow, I cant believe I read the whole thing.. :)

I was looking for how to make a splash screen and got trapped in here.. :)
but since I am here..
Garagames Eula, Garagegames Rules, just put in a quick 3-5 second splash and its over... :)

what does it matter really.. people will buy the game on its merits not on its splash page.. :)

I don't mind a splash and I think it's generous that the pro version doesn't require one Notice the game Gold Rush didn't show a logo. So anyone who doesn't want the splash can simply upgrade the license.

Is there any specific amount of time required to display the logo? Is one second enough? Can I let users skip the splash by pressing space?
