Localized fog

Aka, misty areas, as seen in HL2.
Anyone know anything about how to do this? I'm sort of clueless on even how to research the tech. Typing fog or mist into google gives me about a google responses :)
If you have a pointer or two bookmarked, I'd be much appreciative!

You can do some nice stuff with particles emitters also.

Erik, care to share which method worked best for you? I have tried adding volumetric fog but didn't look right.Nick

I havent yet gotten to it. Its something I would like to utilize in our current project though, so I thought I'd spend a few moments learning how. I will get it in semi soon though, and yes I will post a resource when I do.
