GG at E3 ??

by Bruce Shankle · in General Discussion · 03/24/2005 (1:16 am) · 5 replies

I would like to know if GG will have a booth at E3. If so, will there be any tech guys manning the booth?

Thanks,
Bruce

No booth. Generally a few people make it down though =)

It would be great to be able to use our "GarageGames" membership to allow us to attend E3.

Otherwise, I can't supply the necessary "credentials" to register for the exibit(for free). Not that that would stop me. Paying $275 for the showroom floor is the least expensive part of a trip to LA... lol

The Tech guys are all staying in the Garage shackled to their workstations until everything ships, but the marketing/biz dev. guy is going. This year looks like we could hit a new notch on the hype meter.

@Tim - It's probably worth going to see the 'show', but I've never considered it a top indie priority. I'm jaded I did CES before e3 came along and then all the e3's in Atlanta and now my 3rd back in LA - I keep waiting for the game industry to grow up - games had more class at CES back in Vegas than they do now with the huge $'s spent on massive booths, hype and silicon at e3.

I'll be at e3 and if you email me jaym @ garagegames.com I'd more than willing to hook up at one of the many parties for a free beer. I have about 40 meetings and about 14 parties RSVP'd so it will be a busy time for GG at e3 - this year the theme at a number of parties seems to be single malt scotch - so I think I'll be drinking a lot of water.

E3 went through a slump shortly after it moved from Atlanta to LA the first couple years in LA were OK, then it kinda went downhill. I understand the last couple years have been pretty good though.

If you've never been to an E3 what you can expect is Sensory overload. A pretty decent collection of SWAG, and a lot of crowded booths.

Things to remember for E3.

1. Comfortable Shoes
2. If flying, bring an extra bag
3. If possible, have a backpack with wheels and extendable handle.

Comfortable Shoes, since you're going to be walking a lot. If your knees are susceptable to hurting after long periods on your feet, buy some neoprene knee support / braces. The extra bag is to bring your swag back in, if you're lucky / good you could score from 6 to 10 shirts, various hats, magazines, keychains and other chatchkas. The backpack is your daily lifesaver, the expo bags have rope handles and they will hurt your shoulder, hand or any body part you attach them to after the first 4 hours of the day. Also the only hotel that was close to the convention center last time I went was the Holiday Inn.... It was booked a year in advance for E3 by the Expo Officials. Expect to either be driving, taking a shuttle bus, or walking to the Expo from your Hotel. It was about a 1-2 mile walk from the hotel I stayed in when I went.

Jay,

Thanks for the invite to have a beer. I decided to skip E3 again. Besides, I was more excited about attending GG's conference (that I had to miss, again). One of these days I'll make it out to Oregon!

Well, I'm officially labeling next week, "National Geek Week". E3.. and Star Wars Ep III release. I guess I'll just have to enjoy E3 from a distance and try to elbow my way into a theater to see SW EPIII. Have fun at E3 GG!
