Hosting CVS Server on GG

Do you think it might be possible for you to host CVS server for us (like sourceforge for example) ?
It would be nice if possible, and you may even charge some small fees regarding it for the maintenance of the system.
Just a thought.

Would be a big help - cause it's not open source, so sourceforge isn't really an option...

My option was to host it on my computer. I set up a CVS Server on my personnal computer and it works fine with all team members quite happy with it.

Mhm, I've got a flatrate, so it would be an option, too... maybe I can set it up to wake and go online on a phone call... but I guess a GG server would be the better solution... even if it would cost some money...

So your computer runs and is online day and night?Mhm, I've got a flatrate, so it would be an option, too... maybe I can set it up to wake and go online on a phone call... but I guess a GG server would be the better solution... even if it would cost some money...

And I'm also developping on it and playing... I know it's not good but I cannot afford to have two computers for the moment.

Yep, I have a fast internet connection and then I was able to set up my computer like that. In fact, I have on it a CVS Server + FTP server + Web Server dedicated for our project / team. And I'm also developping on it and playing... I know it's not good but I cannot afford to have two computers for the moment.

the best part about gg hosting your cvs is if the harware fails they would be responcible for gatting your data back (within reason). If you host it on your own computer It would be a great idea to burn your code daily to cd or another hd.

I had a very bad experience with my last hard drive. It crashes very very badly and I lost almost everything (more than 30 Gb)...

In fact, I have a backup procedure. Every friday night, all servers are down during 2 hours in order to make a backup of everything on the CD.I had a very bad experience with my last hard drive. It crashes very very badly and I lost almost everything (more than 30 Gb)...

Jeff, any news on the CVS hosting stuff?

CVS hosting as a service is a killer idea and we would be more than happy to partner with the right company to provide this service to the GG community. However, we are so booked for the next couple of months, that we simply cannot do this project.

We have looked into it, and have decided that we have more pressing issues right now. It would be easy for somebody to set up a CVS,bug trackins, forum system, but making it secure and bomb proff is another matter.CVS hosting as a service is a killer idea and we would be more than happy to partner with the right company to provide this service to the GG community. What ever happened to this idea? It's been more than a couple of months. It's been 3 years.

If you are looking for CVS hosting, drop me a email, our hosting page / web store is being revamped, but we host cvs for a few Torque projects.
