Particle Editor documentation?

by Lennart Steinke · in Torque Game Builder · 03/10/2005 (5:19 am) · 7 replies

Where can I find some info on the particle editor? I wasn't able to do much with it so far...
Is there any documentation I could read (besides the one included in the demo game tut)?

There is no documentation for the particle editor as of yet. The only eral way to get familiar with the particle system is to study some of the stock effects and tweak their parameters. It's not so bad once you've gotten past the ugly interface. The particle editor in its current state is just placeholder, anyhow; proper editors are on the to-do list for EA phase, though.

Um... I haven't been able to do anything with it yet. Besides placing an emiter on screen that spits out some pretty small particles.

If I load different effects I see some pretty neat stuff, but I can't see any difference in the settings (besides the image map used).

Help? ;)

I made a post in this thread here which might be of some use just to get up and running with the particle editor.

Thanks :)
That was really helpful. Does anybody know if the editor itself can be modified? I'd like to have all of the "Graph Field" visible at the same time, since this seems to be where the actual changes are made. It's kinda strange that the most important values are hidden like this. Ok... I might just have been too dumb to find them :)

Thanks a lot... you don't happen to know what the "Frames" combo box does?

@Lennart: Just change your resolution to at least "1024x768" and you'll be able to run it without scrolling the pane.

To do this, go into the base T2D app and select the "File > Options" menu.

"Frames" selects the frame from the imagemap.

Have you been through the tutorial in the "docs "directory yet? It's very helpful in getting your started with some of the ideas behind T2D.

I don't know for sure - but I imagine that if you set up an ImageMap that contains multiple images, the "Frames" combo box will allow you to select the one you're interested in. I haven't tried that myself though yet in the particle editor so maybe someone else can confirm this?

The particle editor in place at the moment is a placeholder. Melv and the GG team are working on a more intuitive editor so I wouldn't worry to much about modifying this one for now. I promise once you get used to the quirks of this one, you can make some spectacular effects in very little time.

EDIT: Hehe, Melv you beat me to it!

I am trying to create an IMAGEMAP for the particle editor in Photoshop and can't seem to get it to show up in the list. I know it has to be a PNG and it must be a constrained size (e.g. 32, 128, 256, etc.) but I can't seem to get it to work. Any suggestions? Help! What are the necessary specs for an IMAGEMAP creation? Thanks!
