Questions about TSE before buying

by Leo Yeo · in Torque Game Engine Advanced · 03/03/2005 (4:16 pm) · 30 replies

I just went through TSE forum but cannot really find the right answer to my questions.

If possible, can some kind soul please enlighten me on the following?

With regards to the 2 following software:

Torque Game Engine (TGE)
Torque Shader Engine (TSE)

I understand from your web page that TGE is a
complete 3D games development solution by itself.

1) What I would like to know is what relation does item TGE have with TSE.

2) Is TSE a complete 3D games development solution by itself too? Does it require TGE to function?

"TSE : Special Note: If you purchase the early adopter now, you get all updates including the final version for the EA price of only $150 for a savings of $45."

3) I understand that TSE is currently selling for USD
$150.00. The current version of TSE is also not
complete and there is still a lot of development work
to be done. Does the above statement means that if I buy the current version of TSE now for $150, I will get all updates(when they are released from time to time) and the completed final version of TSE for free?

4) Will the completed final version of TSE still cost $150?
If not, how much will the completed final version of TSE cost?

Thank you for your time.

1, TSE is TGE with a new rendering layer.

2, It is standalone.

3, I believe it explains that on the TSE product page that all updates will be free.

4, The final version will cost around $200-250 I believe.

Hi Mike Kuklinski,

"The final version will cost around $200-250 I believe."

Does the above $200-250 includes the TGE indie licence?

Or is it $200-250 for the final TSE only and in addition I have to get the TGE indie licence for an additional $100?

So total price for final TSE + TGE = $250 + $100 = < $350?

Leo, as Mike already have told you - TSE is standalone. Rest assured :)
But I'm not sure if you can adopt it if you're not a TGE owner.

$100 for TGE + $150 for TSE upgrade from TGE = $250 total for TSE Early Adopter. TSE price when it goes out of EA will be $295. I emailed you this same information.

Thankz for the info Stefan Lundmark and Jeff Tunnell.

I just check my email and I did receive a reply from Jeff.

Thank you for your time.

I have some more questions:

Final TSE's stand alone price = $295.

If I wait for the final TSE to be released.

Do I still have to buy TGE indi licence before buying the final TSE? or can I buy the final TSE by itself for $295 with out buying the TGE indie licence?

If you navigate to the TSE web page, there is a demo of a dancing monster in white armour. Can the current version of TSE do something similar to this monster demo?

my appologies for asking so many questions. Currently I am doing some research before buying.

your time is very much appriciated.

Why would you wait when you can get it now at a cheaper price? Tell me another Shader engine that can do what TSE can do and be cross platform. Torquescript is torquescript. Learn it now, prototype now and be ready when it goes live.

Dear all,

I seem to be having some problems with this forum. I only posted once and for some unknown reason my post appears to be posted 'A FEW' times!!!

I have deleted my other duplicated posts.

Does this web site work with the Opera browser?

Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

I know where the bug is with regards to my post being duplicated many times.

after I finish writing a message and click on 'submit post', the forum will be updated with my new message.

now if I refresh my Opera browser by clicking on the 'Reload' button in Opera, my previous message will be duplicated onto the forum.

Is this a bug?

What is the proper way to refresh the forum webpage in my Opera browser?

I'm not trying to be obtuse here, but why would the latest version of TSE not be able to do what previous released did?

Hi Stephen Zepp,

is the dancing monster demo done entirely with previous version of TSE?

If you are talking about the demo that is downloaded in the TSE section then yes--that's the purpose of demos, to show off what the product can do...does the demo you are looking at talk about TSE, it's features, and show off various capabilities and effects of shaders?

Yes, the demo that can be downloaded at TSE section is what I was refering to.

I cannot remember all the exact details about the demo now

I remember it requires pixel shader to work.

but I did put the dancing monster demo into hi res and was quite impress by it.

by looking at this demo, I think, it would be possible to do something like the Doom III monsters with TSE

:)

Is 'Tribes : Vengence' done with the Torque engine?

I believe that's the Unreal engine.

I read somewhere on the Net that the GarageGames people mentioned that the final TSE will be capable of doing something close to what Unreal's next generation engine is able to do.

Have anyone here read the above article?

The Unreal's next generation engine is very good. I have seen a demo of what it can do.

If the final TSE can do something close to what Unreal's next gen engine can do then I am very impressed.

GarageGames has got very talented people working on TSE, and as far as the shadertech goes - it should be up to par with Unreal's, yes. Maybe even go as far as to say that TSE is better? You can't judge them by their demos though. Unreal did put in a massive artpackage into their trailers/movies/demos whatever, where GarageGames did not.

I am totally new to Torque.

I understand that I can use Maya to create objects (robots, monsters etc) for TSE?

How does it work?

Can some kind soul kindly tell me how can I use Maya to create objects(robots, monsters, etc) for TSE?

Or maybe give me some clue on where to start looking for info?

Do I get a plugin for Maya that converts my Maya objects into TSE format?

or is there a software that can convert Maya objects into TSE format?

There is a maya to dts exporter. Danny Ngan keeps a good site of documentation and tools.
