T2D book -- get it, it's great!

Just picked up Ken Finney's "2d Game Programming All in One" book today and it's really good -- I reccommend it to anyone trying to get a handle on T2D. The examples are really good, and the code is included on the CD. I'm already on chapter 3 and I can't put it down. Great stuff!!

One day, maybe one day Ken will see it in his heart to take up the challenge.

TDN is going to give us more or better than a book. But someone, cough king tut, should do a book....

I heard rumor at IGC from a fairly reliable source that a T2D book was being worked on... I didn't get a chance to follow up with the author, though, so it's still just a rumor.

A t2d book would allow a user to create a t2d Torque script game using any existing t2d game / demo as base.

I'm wondering... how would you do a T2D book if you consider the current licence scheme?A t2d book would allow a user to create a t2d Torque script game using any existing t2d game / demo as base.

we need an encryption / security product for the TGE engines. To lock people out of modding
(if the developer so chooses).
You could also maybe change some of the script calls so that it won't be looking for default
file names. So you can't just drop .cs files into it.

Well for one that would be hacking and a license violation. This is why we need an encryption / security product for the TGE engines. To lock people out of modding
(if the developer so chooses).

SELL THE LICENSE WITH THE BOOK.
37.95 Book + 100 $ License = 137.95 $ <- It's realy not that big investment for what you get ;)

Yeah, a T2D book would be cool. But I think that T2D is evolving too quickly right now.. at least from the current version to 1.1 it seems like a lot of changes. But I guess whoever would be working on a T2D book would have access to the latest version, as well as knowledge of exactly what was coming soon.

Removing the editors is a requirement of the license when you distribute a game. So even if they have bought and installed a T2D game the purchaser of the book would not have the tools necessary to to create a new game unless they have also bought the engine.
They could just just play around and try to mod in scripts alone but there's nothing that stops them from doing that whether they've bought a book about it or not.

Actually it's quite easy without violating the license.Removing the editors is a requirement of the license when you distribute a game. So even if they have bought and installed a T2D game the purchaser of the book would not have the tools necessary to to create a new game unless they have also bought the engine.
