Large Terrains

I know that similar questions have been asked. I bought this engine a year ago or so and even bought the '3D All in One Game Programming' book, but I have yet to have the time really to do anything with reading or working on this engine.

I should soon though, and I am curious about something that has been on my mind about Torque and terrains for a long time. I understand that the terrain repeats unending, and has a very little impact on a system becuase of how it's done. Pretty ingenious to me, but a game I would like to work on may encompass several square miles of land area. Have complex terrains from steep cliffs to mountains. The way I see it, this current terrain model built in would probably have negative effects on textures stretching and such.

Would it be best to build my own terrain in 3Ds Max, or is there something I could do within Torque? As I said it is a large area, and I have read on these forums while trying to find an answer that the terrain is only 4sq. miles repeated?

I would also like to note that this game idea is not something for your average machine, but I am contemplating a release a few years from now, so I am preparing for the future in terms of how much resources this game would take up. Large texture sizes, many polygons, etc.

Thank you,
Chris

P.S. I should begin reading the book within the next week or so, I hope to find many of my questions answered in it as well.

TSE will have massive terrain when milestone 2 is completed, as far as I know. If your planning on releasing in a few years, then TSE is probably a good choice.
