Quark or Valve Hammer Editor 3.4

Yes, its a newbie question. I just got Torque and am purusing the various documents to learn how to create content and my first basic question (sorry if asked before) is will the Valve Hammer editor work with Torque? Not sure if it supports Valve 220 .map format but I would assume it does. I haven't looked at Quark yet.

The old version of Hammer supports Valve 220, but the new version (Half-Life 2's) does not. Still, using Quark is recommended since Hammer's license doesn't allow for non-Half-Life usage.

Hmmm, ok sounds like Quark it is. I hope its better than Radiant modelers. Any good tutorials for using Quark?

Another option is Cartography Shop. Not quite as powerful as QuArK, but alot eaiser to get into. We have a plugin which allows you to use CartShop with TGE and TSE.

Radiant is $5000. CShop is an excellent CSG solution for a much lower price. Many thanks to Tom for mentioning it.

I'm confused. If Cartography Shop is less powerful than Quark and cost money to purchase then why not just use Quark which looks to be free and more powerful? Is it an ease of use issue?

It's mostly an ease-of-use workflow integration thing. Both are great programs, and both have their quirks.

You guys ought to be selling this from the Torque products page. I have never been abe to get Quark to work for me, this is a great value

I think I'm going to use Hammer. If we don't compile into BSP files and just leave them as .map the EULA seems to allow this. It doesn't seem to prohibit creating map files and using them in your own work.
