SuSE 9.2 ATI strangeness

I have a box with SuSE 9.2 Pro and an ATI Radeon 9200 SE video card.
Using the default SuSE install, I get 295 FPS from glxgears.
I am getting 20-30 fps from planeshift (A crystal space based MMORPG) http://www.planeshift.it/
And about 50-80 fps from TuxRacer
Furthermore I am getting 50-60 fps from the Torque Demo, under this configuration.
So I decided to upgrade to the latest drivers for my card as per ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/current/supplementary/X/ATI/fglrx/8.8.25
Now I am getting 1900 fps from glxgears,
About 100 fps from planeshift.
And about 150 fps from TuxRacer
Why then am I only getting 10-20 fps from Torque?
The ONLY change I have made is to the newer video driver, and everthing else using OpenGL experienced a HUGE jump in frame rates when going from the default SuSE "radeon" driver to the Hardware Accelerated one.
Any thoughts?

FYI I am using a TGE I just downloaded from the My Garage section.
Oh BTW if anyone is ever in the situation, where the ATI driver upgrade has caused TGE to lose frames like that, simply looking in your /etc/X11/XF86Config file for driver "fglrx" and changing back to driver "radeon" did the trick to fix the problem for me.
*UPDATE* Doing comparisions on all of my various distros, this is very clearly an issue with the driver and not an issue with SuSE.
Still it's odd

Yeah I figured that one, but the problem is that will require a re-install. What I'm more or less wondering is WHY every other program I have that uses OpenGL benefited from the upgrade while TGE appears to have suffered.FYI I am using a TGE I just downloaded from the My Garage section.
